Tayara means 'airplane' in Arabic.

This blog is about airplanes and anything that involves them.

It is mostly about Commercial Aviation, but also General and, occasionally, Military.

During my travels around the world I take pictures and video as a hobby of everything and anything related. I also include some acquaintances’ contributions from time to time, giving them proper credit.

Please, feel free to comment or suggest on my posts.

HCMN (Duqow Ahmed Fiidow airport. Beledweyne, Somalia)
<Military Break / Blast From the Past>
In August 1992, Somalia was in the midst of a Civil War that left its population stranded and with no access to basic goods. As part of a multinational United Nations emergency plan called Operation Provide Relief, the United States deployed 18 Hercules C-130 to MBA (Mombasa) in neighboring Kenya, from where humanitarian aid was airlifted to remote Somali areas. This was one of those aircraft, 0948 314AW, seen here arriving from MBA on the third sortie of that particular day.

No, this is not Mars (they haven't conclusively found water on Mars yet anyway). This is Maharlu Lake, and its red color is due to the water extreme saltiness and the mineral sediments. First delivered to the USAF (United States Air Force) in 1945, then was transferred to the RAF (Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom), and after World War II she did commercial service for a number of carriers in Europe. Went back to the United States in 1980. She is still operating as a cargo aircraft, mostly doing service to the Bahamas and back pretty regularly.

Bravo Airways Boeing 737-500 UR-CNE / 2016.03.04

IKA (Imam Khomeini International airport. Tehran, Iran)
<At the Ramp>
Never heard of this airline until I saw this one at IKA as I was boarding for my flight to KBP (Kiev Boryspil). Bravo Airways is precisely a charter carrier from Ukraine and turns out this Boeing 737-500 was also scheduled to KBP that very same day. I actually saw her landing a few hours later at the Ukrainian capital main airport. UR-CNE is over 25 years old (she first served Braathens, Lufthansa and SAS) and is the only B-737 on Bravo Airways' fleet.

Iberia Airbus 320-200 EC-LXQ / 2014.10.25

BETA Cargo DC-8-73F PP-BEL / 2011.10.25

GRU (Guarulhos International airport. Sâo Paulo, Brazil)
<At the Graveyard>
One of the few DC-8's I got on my data base, and sadly she is not airworthy. BETA Cargo McDonnell Douglas DC-8-73F PP-BEL was initially delivered to Flying Tigers in March 1969 as a -63F. She served a number of freight carriers over the decades and stopped flying one year before I took this picture.

EasyJet Airbus 319-100 HB-JZT / 2010.08.14

GVA-LIS—Flight EZ1449, Geneva-Lisbon
<From the Air>
Landing at Lisbon is an experience you shouldn't miss if you are onboard. Try to get a window on the right side of the aircraft, as it is more spectacular from the moment you approach the city if the usual landing pattern is held. This is just a glimpse, Ponte 25 de Abril (25th of April Bridge) over the Tagus River, as seen from seat 20F on board EasyJet Airbus 319-100 HB-JZT.
